Genre Book Club

The Vidalia-Toombs County Library will be starting a new book club in September. The Genre Book Club will read a book each month in a new genre, whether we dive into steampunk, western, science fiction, or fantasy,  we will explore books even we might not normally read. Librarian Matthew Stembridge will hold 4 informal meetings on Monday August 20th at 11:00 am & 6:00 pm and Thursday August 23 at 11:00 am & 6:00 pm. During these session we will discuss possible book choices, genres, and meeting times. If you are interested and can’t make the meetings, please email Matthew at stembridgem@ohoopeelibrary.org for more details.

The Genre Book Club will meet once a month, at a time to be decided at a later date, and we will discuss our favorite books and genres.

It is completely voluntary; everyone will not be required to speak. We’ve had book clubs before where people were worried about having to participate. Attendees can come and listen but we hope everyone will join in to our discussions.

Everyone will have a chance to make book suggestions.

Some of the genres we will look into include: western, dystopian, magical realism, graphic novels, sci-fi, fantasy, historical, memoir, steampunk, thriller, mystery, horror, paranormal, humor, young adult, satire, and pulp. This is not a complete list but just to show that we are considering all genres.

There are no rules beyond come with an open mind.
