The Ladson Genealogy Library began as a passion project for John E. "Jack" Ladson, Jr in the 1940s. When his personal collection out grew his home, Mr. Ladson made his collection available to the public through the John E. Ladson, Jr. Historical and Genealogical Foundation. Upon Mr. Ladson's death in 1999, the Ohoopee Regional Library System took possession of his collection as long as it remained in Vidalia and was made available to the general public. The Ohoopee Library System continues to expand on the original collection now numbering over 30,000 books, photographs, microfilm, and maps.
